RE: RV park restrictions on older motor homes

Actually both---many parks have this rule--many parks pay no attention to it--others will say subject to inspection---I have a 1997 Safari Sahara and have never been turned away
but if someone pulls up in an older rig that is not maintained they can hide behind the "rule"---if its a well maintained rig then no problem---as most rv owners are passing thru--no one can see if the "rule" is consistantly enforced
this subject brings out many heated opinions ---about class envy etc.---my opinion is its a way for park owners to "cover thir butts"

RE: Disappointing WDW Campsite

I think that folks get confused by the premium site tag----at FW it simply means closer to the the park transportation or pool area---other than limited cable it has little to do with the site features----FW is above all reasonable accomadations for up to ten people at the major theme park-with the ability to have a kitchen with you--we love FW but in the context of visiting WDW--the ammenities are Park features (transportation, early entry, extra magic hours)

RE: What do you think... and Why?

I think ther will be a net increase---as folks who have seen their plans slip away say "the heck with it" and go for it---also the entry cost is much lower as people sell their rigs and dealers try to unload inventory---I do think even travelers will stay longer in an area and try to find part time work to suplement their income
I believe we'll see more "workkamper" site only type of deals as more folks will be trying to fill the positions

RE: Selling food from RV? doable?

I think you need to stop listening to all these people telling you to get licenses and such. Just do it. What are they going to do, shut you down? I can tell you that if you cook a decent meal for a decent price you will make money and nobody really cares if you're licensed or not.
until one person thinks you made them sick and can find you and if you can find a park that will allow this as if they permit it on their property they become just as liable as you---if your not going to worry about the law just rob convenience stores---the money is quick and direct and its alot less work--lol

RE: What are the "must see" places on the way to Grand Canyon?

The Sandia Crest tramway in Albuerque (sp?) NM---great hamburgers up on top--plenty of rv parking--------Also Sky City Acoma Peublo also has a rv park and casino with lots of food options====Meteor Crater is kind of nice and has a campground with a Subway nearby-----You can drve thru Petrified Forest NP --Holbrook has a decent KOA on I-40

Beautiful park but be sure to stock up before heading up the mountain--the store on the mountain will not open until late May and its 12 miles to the nearest c-store--the visitor center gift shop has a few items

RE: yellowstone trip

I would plan on spending time at Fishing Bridge and a couple of days at Colter Bay Trailer Village to see the Tetons----I'd probably take 40 west to Amarillo--then cut up 287 and over to Raton on 25---25 north to your prefferred route into the park---I'd come and go on two different routes---maybe in thru Cody and out thru Jackson Hole
Last tip is hit the last major town before the park for supplies---the park prices are really high---ther is a Walmart in Cody
hope these opinions are helpful

RE: KOA

we have stayed at some excellent KOA's and some really bad ones---all were higher than local parks in the area----many that looked better once we were in the ara to see them----they are only as good as the franchisee--and they run the gammit from new excited business--to old cash cow businesses trying to get out of their franchise agreement
I base the value of their franchise by the number of independent campgounds we see with the classic "A" frame office
they do have some excellent operators

RE: Selling food from RV? doable?

Most health entities require a restaurant to have a three compartment sink, a separate hand washing sink, and yet a separate mop sink----many counties require a simple health card---other require a liscensec manager on duty at all times----then you have to be cooking on approved equipment and have minimum liability insurance--usually 1-2 million worth (you can poison alot of folks)----if you can get a couny to consider you a cart operation you'll need to prove you have access to a commissary with all of the above (think the old sky chefs at the airport)
your best bet would be to workkamp at parks with restaurants and work at those
most are always looking for experienced help

RE: yellowstone- grand tetons

As your time is limited I'd stay in the park---you can't visualize the distances involved to see the area---even with in the park--traffic is slow and there are "animal" jams
Fishing Bridge is nothing fancy but its got a decent location for touring the park
In Grand Teton Colter Bay Trailer Village is very nice---has a decent store, nice laundrymat, excellent museum, and a couple of good restaurants.
The other problem about staying outside the park is road construction--as the season is short--road repairs must be done during peak season--so your commute to the park can be lengthy.
I'd avoid Grand Teton RV Resort like the plague---is a flat dust bowl (nice views ) but a lousy campground--we only use it if we can get into Colter Bay.
Remember you'll spend most of your day touring--animal activity increases at dawn and dusk--so you'll not be spending much time at the rig
